A 16-year-old Granbury High School student was found in possession of a THC vape pen Monday morning and was subsequently charged with possession of a controlled substance in penalty group 2, less than one gram — a state jail felony.
According to Lt. Patrick Wiginton with the Granbury Police Department, officers were dispatched to GHS at 10:43 a.m. May 6 for a report of a student in possession of a THC vape pen. The male student was observed smoking the vape pen by school staff, who reported the incident.
“The pen was field tested and showed a positive result for THC over the 0.3 legal threshold,” Wiginton said.
Hood County Juvenile Probation was then contacted and arranged for the student to be admitted into the Rite of Passage Juvenile Detention Facility, according to Wiginton. The student’s parent was contacted and responded to the school prior to the student being transported to the juvenile facility.
“Granbury ISD has a strict no drug and vape policy in place,” Granbury Independent School District Director of Communication Ryan Cox told the HCN. “Students who violate the policy are disciplined according to the student code of conduct and we partner with local law enforcement when necessary.”
